"Our Lady Star of the Sea" Church in Amlwch
Description
In the case of the Church "Our Lady Star of the Sea" KÖSTER Restoration Plaster was a natural choice. The church consists of continuous concrete walls arching over the nave. There is no insulation on either the inside or outside of the concrete structure. Given the large volume of the nave area, the fact that the church will often be filled with a large number of people and a lack of ventilation the risk of condensation would have to be classified as very high. In fact the old plaster that was removed as part of the refurbishment was very crumbly, damp and yellow. By specifying KÖSTER Restoration Plaster the condensation issue can be controlled. The Koster Restoration plaster used on this project contolled the condensation issue. The products used were Koster Restoration Plaster "E Fast White", a relatively quick drying version that cures to a bright white finish, "Restoration Plaster Coat" which creates a smoother but still breathable finish as compared to the open pored finish of the base plaster, Polysil TG 500 a special salt blocking silicate polymer primer and Koster NB1 Grey, a waterproof sealing slurry that is effective against negative water pressure.
